Closer By The Mile, my debut book chronicling the story of the Pan-Mass Challenge, a singular ongoing commitment and trajectory of hope for cancer research, is available on Amazon.
Published in the summer of 2013, the book conveys how the Pan-Mass Challenge has grown to raise $414 million for Boston’s Dana-Farber Cancer Institute during 34 years. Readers come along for the ride, traversing many back stories of PMC riders and volunteers, their connections with medical practitioners and families with loved ones who are undergoing treatment.
The book reveals the PMC’s triumphant spirit and role as the country’s most successful single-event athletic fundraiser.
Participants and donors to the two-day event continued their inspiring momentum-building for research and patient care by raising a record $39 million last year. They will ride again August 2-3 seeking to top an official goal of raising $40 million.
As PMCers ourselves, my wife Denise and I together raised $11,000 in 2013. I contributed 75 percent of net proceeds from the book — which is ongoing — and helped raise more than $5,000 of my share. We joined more than 5,400 riders and nearly 4,000 volunteers spanning from Sturbridge to Provincetown.
Thanks for considering Closer By The Mile, and for your own interest and contribution to the cause!
